About Us
The Bakery On Main Story
Founded in 1992, our story begins as a bakery inside a small natural foods market on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut. It was there that our founder Michael Smulders noticed there was a lack of gluten-free and celiac friendly food that his customers could eat. After some experimentation, Michael created the first corn cup base granola with ingredients that tasted delicious. Customers quickly fell in love with this creation that allowed them to indulge in a snack that’s filling and nutritious.
Michael’s passion for creating a delicious gluten-free and celiac-friendly breakfast and snack foods grew. He continued to create innovative recipes which expanded from granola to oatmeal, oats, and granola bars. Realizing that people around the country craved simple, effortless eating and snacking, Michael decided to move into manufacturing his creations and distributing them to supermarkets nationwide.

With the passing of Michael in 2021, Bakery On Main is continuing his passion to bring delicious, great tasting food that EVERYONE can enjoy. Bakery On Main is a woman owned company and lead by a team of industry leading professionals dedicated to keeping his vision alive.
We take pride in using only clean ingredients that contain no artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors. All our products are Non-GMO Project Verified, Certified Gluten-free, Kosher-Parve and always delicious

Making life easy on Main Street goes beyond creating delicious gluten-free food that everyone can eat. We believe in giving back to our community and supporting non-profit organizations that strive to give everyone access to nutritious healthy food. Each year we are proud to support hundreds of charitable events and organizations through donation of products. We are also able to donate hundreds of pounds of food to our local food bank with the produce grown from our community garden.
